Sept 12, 2012 On the Spirit of Shrewsbury weekend, September 29-30th 2012, we will hold our
gala celebration for our 75 years of history.
Shrewsbury Crew is 75
It’s time to celebrate!
Currently, our plans include:
· An open house at the DRC on Friday night.
From 7-9pm we will welcome out of town guests and renew old acquaintances. Light refreshments will
be served. The address is 237 North Quinsigamond Ave, Shrewsbury. ·
A Saturday morning race. At 10am our present crews will host and compete in a small invitational regatta
for some of the area schools. All are welcome to attend and cheer on our crews.
· A cookout around noon on Saturday. Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and a soft drink or water will be served. After the
cookout, we have a learn to row session for interested family members, and a chance for alumni crews to get back in the boat
and have 500m races from 290 to the DRC. Cost is $5 per person.
· The Spirit of Shrewsbury Parade on Sunday. Want to march with the shell carrier? You’re welcome
to join us! Please let us know if you and any guests will be
attending the reception, cookout, or rowing festivities. If you know
of any other Shrewsbury Crew members, please share this information so they can join their teammates in celebrating our Diamond
Jubilee. Tracking everyone down has been a challenge. Contact Coach Krause, at firstname.lastname@example.org at 64 Holden Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. Another contact
point is at shrewsburycrew.org, where anyone can send the coaches an email with their contact information. My grandfather, Ken Burns, would have been very happy that the program
has grown and flourished, with so much support from former oarsmen and involved community members.
Hoping to hear from you soon!

annual Calendar Raffle will be sold in April to be drawn each day in May. You can check our website
at shrewsburycrew.org for details and purchase options. There is usually a good bit of excitement
around our fantastic calendar offerings, and a chance to win 31 times!
2) Blankets for sale! To
commemorate our 75th year we have nylon backed folding fleece blankets for sale on our website. Great
to throw in the car for emergencies, bring to a race or picnic, or just wrap up in!
for sale. We are selling an inch of the shell for $50. This would entitle the
donor to have their initials printed on the side of the boat under the gunnels. Example: “A.B.C.”.
If a donor wants to print out a whole name, it would be at the price of $50 per inch for 3-6 letters and or spaces.
For example “Albert B. Cunningham” would be $200 for the donation, because it takes up about 4 inches.
If the year of graduation were to be added, it would be an additional $50 for “ ’37”.
4) Oars for
sale. Oars are also available to purchase for our program. We need 8 oars for
each shell to be able to row. We usually buy a set of 10 for each boat so that we have a spare port and
starboard oar. The Shrewsbury High School Boosters Club
has set up an account for this fundraising event, with all money raised going into a specific crew account held for
us for the purchase of the shell, and possibly oars and electronics to go with it. All checks can be made
out to the SHS Boosters and sent to Shrewsbury High, 64 Holden Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
Please note “SHS Crew” in the memo section of your check.

“Buy” the Inch, and We’ll Go The Mile Campaign
It seems like yesterday
that we had the bumper
stickers made up with “Shrewsbury Crew, 50 Years of Tradition”. Over the years we have had many people that have contributed to the program.
The FOSC (Friends of Shrewsbury Crew) is engaged in a fundraising campaign to update and supplement some of the rowing equipment. Although we have had very generous donations over the past decades, additional equipment is still needed.
One way to help our program is to buy an inch of the boat for $50. The cost of a new boat is $35,700. Another option is donating oars, which cost $300 for each one. A tax receipt will be made out for anyone making a donation
during this campaign, if requested.

We need your help!
We are trying to track down everyone
who has rowed for Shrewsbury Crew so they can join their teammates in celebrating our Diamond Jubilee. If you are in contact with any former rowers, please ask if they have heard from us. If not, have them contact Coach Krause at SHS, 64 Holden Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545. We can also be reached atwww.shrewsburycrew.org,
where anyone can send the coaches an email with their information.
Another place for contact is on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ShrewsburyCrew.
We look forward to re-connecting with as many Shrewsbury alumni as possible!
